New Signage Completed in Janesville
Before any dirt is overturned, one giant shovel is breaking ground as part of a new billboard in Janesville! This unique signage marks the future home of St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital and the rest of the future Janesville Medical Campus, courtesy of Dean Health System and SSM Health Care of Wisconsin.
A billboard supported by a giant shovel can now be spotted among the project site’s lush fields along Highway 11, just east of Interstate 90. The site is designated for true groundbreaking before the end of 2008. Signaling things to come, the billboard rests on an enormous shovel measuring 34 feet in height and 16 feet in width at its greatest points. Creative minds at Hiebing, a marketing and advertising agency based in Madison, along with Lamar Outdoor Advertising of Janesville, designed and assembled the work of art.
“This billboard builds excitement before the new facilities are constructed in a creative and interesting way,” says Sean Mullen, Hiebing Creative Director. “The oversized shovel, in what is now a simple field, will soon be a place with world-class healthcare.”

The new 50-bed hospital and physician office complex is situated on a 50-acre site on Janesville’s southeast side. Erdman, a Cogdell Spencer Company, in a joint venture with Shepley Bulfinch of Boston and J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. of Janesville, has been chosen to design and construct the $140 million project.
Dean Health System is a multi-physician specialty health care delivery system based in Madison, serving south-central Wisconsin. The Dean organization and the St. Mary’s Dean Venture physicians, includes approximately 500 physicians providing primary, specialty and tertiary care at almost 60 locations throughout southern Wisconsin, including the Riverview, Northview, Milton and Delavan Clinics.
SSM Health Care of Wisconsin (SSMHC/WI) owns and operates two hospitals and two nursing homes in Wisconsin.
