Structure Takes Shape

P3040936

Spring is in the air and the structure of the new St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital and Dean Clinic in Janesville is taking shape this month! Forms are up and covered in plastic to protect them from any cold spells we might encounter during the months of March or April, but construction crews are seeing the sun more frequently.

Above, the main elevator and stair tower are clearly visible.  In all, you can pick out one stairwell, two public elevators and one service elevator! That’s progress!

Here is a closer look at some of the forms we have covered in plastic for weather protection.

Above, you’re looking at Lycon trucks  pumping concrete into a hopper.  That concrete is then being piped to the hospital’s main elevator and stair tower. On the left, the structure’s floor steel has already been installed for both the first and second floors of the hospital bed tower and not far from this steel is the future loading dock for the hospital.

It’s hard to imagine now, but think spring and think green!  Eventually, this will be the view from the Garden Level.  Above it, first floor steel and bundles of decking will soon be spread out and fastened to more steel.

J.P. Cullen & Sons’ crane is setting concrete forms for a sheer wall that will be one of the walls of the hospital and clinic’s Town Square. Towards the Dean Clinic side, its foundation walls are now up and the elevator footing has been laid.

Finally, crews are excavating this area for footings along the south elevation of the Dean Clinic, near what will become a healing garden. We’re looking forward to bringing you more spring progress in the coming weeks, so continue to check back often and share your thoughts with us below!
